Prevent Tick Bites

  • Avoid areas where ticks live (wooded areas with high grass and leaf litter)
  • Wear an EPA-approved insect repellent (choose the right one for you)
  • Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants (and tuck you pants into your socks!)
  • Wear light-colored clothing so ticks are easier to spot
  • Wear treated clothing
  • Do a thorough tick check after outdoor activity
  • Shower after being outside
  • Place clothes in dryer for 15 minutes on high to kill any ticks on clothing
  • Promptly remove any ticks
