- Avoid areas where ticks live (wooded areas with high grass and leaf litter)
- Wear an EPA-approved insect repellent (choose the right one for you)
- Wear long-sleeved shirts and pants (and tuck you pants into your socks!)
- Wear light-colored clothing so ticks are easier to spot
- Wear treated clothing
- Do a thorough tick check after outdoor activity
- Shower after being outside
- Place clothes in dryer for 15 minutes on high to kill any ticks on clothing
- Promptly remove any ticks
