Milk & Dairy

Mission: The Dairy Section of the Vermont Agency of Agriculture Food and Markets has oversight of the dairy industry in Vermont. There are over 500 dairy farms in Vermont milking cattle, sheep and/or goats, and over 156 firms processing that milk into a variety of dairy products.  The Dairy Section is responsible for assuring that sanitation standards are followed to minimize the risk of unsafe products entering the marketplace. The Dairy Section is comprised of a team of dairy specialists qualified to work with all industry sectors along the farm to plate continuum.

Milk Quality Enforcement Program:
The Dairy Section has five inspectors who provide inspection services and technical assistance to processing plants and four inspectors who inspect and provide technical assistance to farms to ensure the farms are meeting minimum sanitation standards in their production practices.
