The animal health laboratory provides testing for infectious diseases in equines and livestock. Equine serum is tested for Equine Infectious Anemia virus. Cattle and other ruminant serum are tested for Brucella abortus the agent responsible for Brucellosis AKA Bang’s disease. The animal health lab is accredited by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
The animal health lab also provides testing for local fair associations for performance enhancing substances commonly associated with horse pulls.

Sampling & Submission Guidelines:
Ship/Deliver equine blood samples to the lab during normal State of Vermont business hours. Samples must be submitted in vacutainers marked with horse name, date and vet clinic. Federal paperwork must accompany sample unless samples are prelogged in VetLink. Sample without proper identification and paperwork will not be tested. Lab testing is invoiced monthly.
