2021 Hemp Production Webinar Series

Join us for our new 2021 Hemp Production Webinar Series! We are still developing it and would love to hear from you on any topics you would like to see covered and addressed! Our first webinar on Monday, April 12 from Noon to 1:00 p.m., EST, will be on Growing High Quality Hemp Starts. The focus will be on lighting requirements of hemp seedlings, as well as producing certified organic hemp starts. 2020 Industrial Hemp Conference

Registration is open for the 2020 Industrial Hemp Conference scheduled for Feb. 20, 2020 at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Burlington, VT.

Cost is $100 per participant and $75 for the live online broadcast.

Climate Resiliency and Pasture Management Workshop

Joshua Faulkner, UVM Farming & Climate Change Coordinator, will lay a foundation for climate science and agric. related climate data and research. Sarah Flack, consultant, will lead a pasture walk and discuss improving soil health and pasture irrigation. Nick Comerci, NRCS, will share technical and financial information for pasture irrigation.

Dairy and Forage Production and Nutrient Management

Join UVM Extension Agronomist Heather Darby, Sarah Flack, Livestock Production Consultant, and host Guy Choiniere for a farm tour and discussion on grass-fed dairy production, soil fertility and nutrient management, forage production and quality, and much more. The Choiniere’s farm is grass-fed and emphasizes the importance of supporting for-age and animal productivity and quality through managing soil fertility and health.

UVM Extension Northwest Crops & Soils Annual Field Day

The UVM Extension Northwest Crops & Soils Annual Field Day is Thursday, July 25 and our theme this year is Twelve Years of Research – But Wait, There’s More!  It’s a full day event and will get underway at 10 a.m. sharp with a tour of the farm and many of its research plots and experiments involving perennial grasses, soybeans, small grains, nematode trials, corn and interseeding, hemp, hops and legume trials, among other crops. Trials also test new equipment and crop management strategies.

Following a BBQ lunch, in-depth workshops will be offered on cover crops, beans and corn, hemp and hops, and getting started with grazing. Participants also will learn about precision agriculture from Scott Magnan's Custom Service in St. Albans.

Come and learn about getting more production with less work by implementing various tools and techniques, including those gleaned from lean farm principles. Topics covered will include: recognizing & reducing waste, maximizing labor input, work flow, organization & decluttering, and “planfulness.”
