Thinking Climate Smart on Pastures

Thinking Climate Smart on Pastures

Date & Time: Monday Sept. 16, 12:30pm - 2:30pm

Location:
Shelburne Farms, 1611 Harbor Road, Shelburne VT 05482

Description: Join this information- and farmer-focused discussion about ways to be more climate smart with farm operations. Sam Dixon from Shelburne Farms will talk about ways they are working towards their net-zero goal including silvopasture, riparian buffers, and introducing biochar onto their fields. Meet at the dairy barns where Sam will give an overview of their operation and rotational grazing practices. Walk to the new silvopasture planting to discuss the process of planting trees in pasture and different ways to implement silvopasture (depending on your farm goals). Explore a pasture or two with established trees for cows to use as shade and see riparian buffers planted by the lake. Walk back to the barn to discuss their biochar project (time permitting). Snacks, refreshments, and boot covers will be provided. This is a free program.
