P R O G R A M  D E T A I L S

The program will provide updates on issues concerning agricultural crops, pest manage-ment and pesticide safety in Vermont and the Northeast.

Specific Topics Include:

  • Updates from the Vermont Agency of Agri-culture, Food & Markets (VAAFM)
  • VAAFM pesticide and nitrate ground and surface water sampling program and re-sults
  • Current understanding of glyphosate's risk profile
  • Understanding the development of cancer for pesticide applicators and handlers
  • Cover crop termination
  • Precision ag and pest management

Initial Pesticide Certification Meeting - Burlington, VT

 
This program will provide review of the Northeast CORE Manual 3rd edition and the Vermont pesticide regulations necessary to understand to pass the Vermont Pesticide Applicator CORE exam. This review is NOT intended as a substitute for study of the manual and regulations. The CORE Exam will be given after the review in the afternoon from 2-4 p.m. (No category exams will be given but can be scheduled with VAAFM for a later date.)
Audience
This review is for anyone in the state of Vermont who uses, supervises, recommends, or sells pesticides and/or trains Worker Protection Standard handlers/workers including landscapers, nursery employees, farmers, agricultural employers (WPS compliance), garden center employees, pest control operators, government or municipal employees, university employees, etc.
Pesticide Applicators
This program will provide FOUR Vermont recertification credits. The exam is not required for those attending for credits.

2019 Industrial Hemp Conference

Please join University of Vermont Extension Northwest Crop & Soils Program and the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets at this one-day conference to expand industrial hemp knowledge of farmers from seed to sales. Beginning at cultivation through processing and sales.

The welcome and plenary session will be given by Monique McHenry, PhD at UVM and Director of Cannabis Science and Medicine Program. She will talk about cannabis as a plant focusing on the taxonomic challenges and the chemicals that make this species unique. Our lunch speaker is Dr. Jay Noller who is a Professor and Head of the Crop and Soil Science Department at Oregon State University. He is an original leader for research and development for Oregon’s hemp industry.

Multiple breakout sessions will include educational and information sharing opportunities on the types of hemp grown for food, fiber, and flower including breeding and selection of hemp for CBD production, and growing, harvesting, and drying/storage methods.

The conference is scheduled for Friday, February 8, 2019, 9am to 6pm at the Hilton Burlington Lake Champlain in Burlington, VT.
