Job Description: 

Our 200+ acre farm has approximately 70 acres of apples, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, cherries, peaches, plums, grapes, pears and fall squash as well. Our retail store is a popular stop for our handpicked produce, homemade canned goods, fresh pressed cider, gift items, candies, fudge, cheese, our famous apple cider donuts, pies and other baked goods. We have a petting zoo as well. Wellwood Orchards is an affordable, wholesome venue for young and old alike. Our family owned PYO farm has an established customer base, and we continue to grow in the agritourism market with our seasonal community events. This ORCHARD MANAGER will perform manual labor and a variety of duties on the farm. Learn planting, cultivating, harvest and more. Listen to and learn from the owners, operate equipment, maintenance of equipment, and attend to small farm animals. Must be willing to learn practical orchard experience every day. Work well alone or with others. Be self-motivated and value working hard to be part of our team. Weekends are only required during apple harvest and occasional busy weeks. Participation in our events is also expected.

Our ideal teammate will have the desire to grow with us as a business and want to be an integral part of the orchard. You will be expected to remember your duties, keep records, supervise, make decisions and be able to follow directions. The right person will show the aptitude for future advancement.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • desire to WORK on a farm
  • able to safely perform manual and sometimes heavy work
  • able to safely handle animals with confidence, care and patience
  • able to work indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions and seasons
  • mechanical aptitude and experience!
  • able to safely operate a chainsaw and power tools!
  • able to deal politely and effectively with the public and supervise other farm workers
  • must possess a valid drivers license and transportation
  • fruit tree pruning- a plus but will train
  • ability to learn and retain knowledge
  • confidence/leadership skills
  • work safely with chemicals/learn applications of same
  • common sense
  • excellent attendance
  • Adherence to our basic work standards i.e. attendance, no drugs, trust, respect, etc.

 

Job Duration: Year Round

Compensation:  Full-time, Monday through Friday except harvest season when schedule changes temporarily. Paid vacation, sick time and discounts on our produce.  Friendly, busy work environment, every day is something new!  Starting wage $18-$25/hr dependent on experience.
