UPCOMING EVENT: History, Biology, and Year-Round Monitoring and Management of Parasitic Mites in Honey Bee Colonies

WORKSHOP: History, Biology, and Year-Round Monitoring and Management of Parasitic Mites in Honey Bee Colonies

APRIL 14 - 6:30 TO 8PM  |  LOCATION: Hildene, 1005 Hildene Road, Manchester, VT Lowerre Family Youth Education Center

Hildene and the Bennington County Beekeepers Club will co-sponsor a presentation by David T. Peck, Ph.D. Director of Research and Education at Betterbee. The program will cover the history of the relationship between the parasitic mite Varroa destructor and the western honey bee Apis mellifera. Peck will discuss the basic biology of varroa mites and the ways they can spread between colonies. It is only once you understand the enemy that you can employ effective methods for monitoring mite populations and killing mites in your bee colonies. The workshop will focus on the importance of having (and following!) a year-round mite management plan to keep your bees safe from this pernicious and devastating parasite.

REGISTRATION REQUIRED: To register contact Stephanie: stephanie@hildene.org, or 802.367.7960
