Have you been thinking about opening your dairy farm more to visitors? Maybe you already have school groups that visit, but want to consider running a summer camp. Here is a new tool to help you explore if running a dairy farm summer camp is the right move for your farm.
The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food, and Markets is pleased to be sharing this new resource, “A Guide for Dairy Farm Summer Camp: Connecting Cows, Children, and Community in Vermont”. This guide was prepared by Shelburne Farms for the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets and funded by Vermont dairy farmers through the Vermont Dairy Promotion Council.
The guide offers resources for:
- Planning for the business side of summer camp
- Farm safety and logistics
- What to do with the campers
- And, a robust appendix filled with activities, sample policies, and replicable templates
This guide was developed for dairy farmers that are interested in starting or expanding summer camps, as well as for technical assistance providers that support dairy farms.
Recorded Virtual Training: How to Start or Expand Dairy Farm Summer Camps
A virtual training was offered on December 10, 2024 to introduce the guide and provide a high level overview of the first steps for starting a summer camp.
