Brown Sugar Pound Cake

Makes one cake

Ingredients

  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • ¼ tsp. salt
  • ¾ c. butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 c. packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 c. milk

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350.  Grease and flour 10” tube/bundt pan. 
  • Combine flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.  Stir well with a whisk.  Beat the butter in a large bowl at medium speed until light and fluffy.  Gradually add brown sugar and vanilla, beating until well-blended.  Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.  Add flour mixture to sugar mixture alternately with the milk beating at low speed. Begin and end with the flour mixture.
  • Spoon batter into prepared pan.  Bake at 350 for 65 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean.  Cool in pan for ten minutes on a wire rack and remove from pan.  Cool completely on a wire rack.  Sprinkle powdered sugar over top of cake.

Note: At the holiday, we use four 3”x6” loaf pans which is great for gift giving.  Baking time will vary.
