The Maple Program implements the Vermont Maple Law and Regulations that establish quality standards and food safety and labeling requirements for pure maple syrup and other maple products. Program staff conduct periodic inspection of maple products sold at retail locations, respond to consumer complaints, and provide technical assistance to producers and packers regarding regulatory requirements.

Beginning in July 2025, all licensed maple dealers and processors will receive periodic inspections to assess compliance with Vermont Maple Law and Regulations. Routine inspections will be pre-scheduled and conducted by Agency staff. See the resources below for further details.

Maple Dealer and Processor License
The following licenses are required for any person who annually purchases the minimum amount of maple syrup for the purpose of packaging for resale, processing into associated products, or for resale in bulk. Licensing is not required for persons who purchase less than 1,000 gallons of maple syrup annually. Additionally, this license does not apply to sugar makers who process and pack their own maple syrup.
- Dealers: This license applies to any person who annually purchases between 1,000 and 2,500 gallons of maple syrup.
- Processors: This license applies to any person who annually purchases 2,500 gallons or more of maple syrup.
