The Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food and Markets' Consumer Protection Section contracts with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) to perform quarterly inspections at businesses that have 3,000 or more laying hens and those that buy in loose eggs and repack them. The Consumer Protection Section has one USDA licensed inspector that performs these inspections.
Inspections consist of evaluation for proper labeling, grading of eggs, and record checks to monitor for compliance.
