Huber Wins National Askew Award

Chief Policy Enforcement Officer Dave Huber graduated from the Vermont Certified Public Manager Program (VCPM) on Friday, 06/21/19.  Dave’s VCPM team, comprised of Meghan Purvee (Forest, Parks, and Recreation) and Meg Lidster (Agency of Human Services), completed a research project for the Department of Health to provide clarity on the Rules for Prescribing Opioids.  Dave is now a “Certified Public Manager®” (CPM) who may join the American Academy of Certified Public Managers® (https://cpmacademy.org/). 
 
Dave and his team were also recognized with the prestigious 'Askew Award', recognizing those who have "completed projects considered exemplary". This is the first time this national award has been given in Vermont. 
 
Dave just completed VCPM’s intensive two-year curriculum, providing highly interactive opportunities to learn and share best practices in leadership and management, from self-awareness and development to strategic thinking, planning, and change management and governance. 
 
Courses included strengths-based leadership, emotional intelligence and communication, leading groups and teams, budgeting in state government, strategic planning, project management, public speaking, and internal consulting. 
 
Deputy Secretary Alyson Eastman attended the graduation ceremony and acknowledged Dave's accomplishment. "Dave exemplifies the commitment all Agency of Agriculture employees have for our agricultural community and our state's farming culture. We congratulate Dave for his hard work and thank him for his continued efforts on the part of Vermonters." 
 
Dave's accomplishment increases his capacity as a state employee to take a continued or increasing leadership role in activities such as:    
a. Leading team or staff meetings
b. Presenting reports to appointing authorities
c. Facilitating a problem-solving session
d. Developing recommendations for strategic renewal or organizational development
e. Job shadowing in a decision-making capacity
f. Supervising high level work projects or teams
